There are some days when the field of patient safety gets a little down on itself about the slow pace of change in the past couple of decades. However, credence should be given to the specialized field and industry it has created. For example, you can join professional Patient Safety Organizations, attend patient safety-centric conferences, earn a master's degree in patient safety, and even become professionally accredited in patient safety from a select few programs. The industry itself has made wonderful, meaningful strides in awareness, if not always in results; one can argue that the former needs to happen in order to achieve the latter.
