Accrediting organizations suspend most survey activities to focus on COVID-19
If you are expecting a survey from your accreditation organization (AO) in the upcoming weeks and months, check in with your liaison. All four hospital AOs have suspending most or all survey activities during the national emergency to deal with COVID-19.
All the AOs say that CMS has assured them that any hospital facing renewal for accreditation will still be able to participate in and bill Medicare during the current national emergency, despite the suspension of surveys.
The Joint Commission (TJC) announced that as of March 16 it was suspending regular surveys until further notice.
