May 24, 2011
They Joint Commission has approved a new National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) set to go into effect in 2012. The new goal focuses on catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI), and will be a part of only the hospital and critical access accreditation programs.
The goal, NPSG.07.06.01, requires hospitals to implement evidence-based practices for the prevention of indwelling CAUTI. The goal will not be applicable to pediatric populations.
