Brief Emotional Support Teams

When the Stress, Trauma, and Resilience (STAR) program at Ohio State’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health set out to find the best ways and timing to reach out to those who have experienced a traumatic event, it discovered that victims weren’t the only ones in need of support. Through more research, Kenneth Yeager, professor emeritus and founder of the STAR program, became aware that physicians and staff also need extra support when they have been involved in a traumatic patient event. This led to the development of the Brief Emotional Support Teams (BEST) model.
