CMS’ 2024 proposed rule for accreditation organizations
On February 15, 2024, CMS issued a proposed rule that included multiple new requirements for all accreditation organizations (AO), specifically mentioning The Joint Commission (TJC) as an example. If passed, the rule would have a significant financial impact on AOs. CMS estimated TJC would lose $20 million just on consulting and education programs. These changes could represent a massive shift in how the 11 AOs that accredit Medicare-certified providers and suppliers conduct surveys and charge for their services.
