Emergency hospitalization update
Two U.S. senators have called for the Department of Health and Human Services to convene a task force to develop strategies to reduce unnecessary hospitalization related to adverse drug events.
CMS recently amended tag number 508 in the hospital Conditions of Participation (CoP), which sets forth the standards for hospitals on adverse drug events (ADE). This memo was issued May 20, 2011, and is contained in the updated hospital CoP manual that was released December 22, 2011.
