Examining Joint Commission’s new and revised requirements for the Infection Prevention and Control chapter

Effective July 1, 2024, The Joint Commission (TJC) approved new and revised requirements for the Infection Prevention and Control (IC) chapter for hospitals and critical access hospitals. The chapter underwent a full rewrite, focusing on the structures that support quality and safety. It will replace the current IC chapter for both accreditation programs, according to TJC. The revised chapter also has fewer elements of performance (EP) and compounds similar EPs. TJC has been working to reduce the number of redundant EPs across all of its accreditation standards.
