Experts: U.S. still at risk for infectious disease outbreak

Despite the hysteria and attention paid to last year’s Ebola outbreak in the United States, experts speaking at a Capitol Hill briefing last week said increased awareness and more funding are needed to prepare for the next disease that strikes, the Washington Times reported.
Bruce Ribner, MD, medical director of the Emory University Hospital Serious Communicable Diseases Unit, told the briefing that his budget was cut by two-thirds at a time when additional funds are needed to prepare for similar unexpected situations in the future.
