Joint Commission releases top-cited standards of 2013

Life Safety and Environment of Care standards comprised seven of The Joint Commission’s top 10 most troublesome compliance issues in 2013, according to the April issue of The Joint Commission Perspectives. The list’s percentages track the number of organizations that received RFIs for each standard. Tied for the top spot with 52% are LS.02.01.20 (requiring facilities to maintain the means of egress) and RC.01.01.01 (maintaining accurate and complete medical records).

 

The remaining standards on the list are LS.02.01.10 (building and fire protection features, 48%); EC.02.05.01 (managing risks associated with utility systems, 47%); IC.02.02.01 (reducing infection risk associated with equipment, devices, and supplies, 46%); LS.02.01.30 (maintaining building features to protect from fire and smoke hazards, 45%); EC.02.03.05 (maintaining fire safety equipment and building features, 45%); EC.02.06.01 (providing a safe, functional environment, 39%); LS.02.01.35 (providing and maintaining fire extinguishing systems, 36%); and MM.03.01.01 (safe medication storage, 35%).
