Kentucky VA hospital reduces MRSA rate through screening

Louisville (Ky.) Veterans Affairs Medical Center had a problem with the superbug methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) until it began a screening program in 2007, the Courier-Journal reports. The hospital began screening every patient admitted or moved from one to another for MRSA. As a result, infections have fallen from 1.89 infections per 1,000 bed days of care in 2008 to 0.09 infections per 1,000.
