New stroke certification launched by Joint Commission, AHA/ASA
July 28, 2015
The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association plan to launch a new disease-specific care advanced certification program for acute stroke ready hospitals. The program is based on the Brain Attack Coalition’s recommendations released in 2013.
On July 1, The Joint Commission began accepting applications for the new program, which is geared toward accredited hospitals that would not be candidates for primary stroke center or comprehensive stroke center certification. The program’s goal is to recognize hospitals equipped to treat stroke patients before transferring them to a primary or comprehensive stroke center.
