Profile: Margarette Osias, patient navigator

Margarette Osias is a PN and certified translator for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC). For the past three years, Osias has helped patients schedule and obtain screenings, find primary care providers, apply for medical coverage, and travel to and from appointments. In addition, she is fluent in Haitian Creole and can provide on-site interpretation for patients.

“I got into this field by nature,” Osias says. “Growing up, I’ve always enjoyed helping people. I have been interpreting for family members and friends for the most part of my life—I was raised in a Haitian household, and I was the only one that spoke English. This ability to use this skill has been useful in this role because the Haitian population is one of the many underserved communities that we aim to reach.”
