Proposed changes to the CMS hospital CoPs (part 2)
There are two sections that would affect transplant centers. The first relates to transplant center reports to CMS. The current CoP requires notification of certain changes related to the transplant center program, such as a decrease in the number of transplants or survival rates. Data is required even though CMS routinely receives the same data from other sources such as the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network. The proposed change would eliminate this redundant data submission requirement. It would dispense with an unnecessary survey process for transplant centers while maintaining strong federal oversight.
