Stay atop of fast-changing regulatory requirements and CDC guidance
As the nation continues its recovery from the pandemic, be aware of the continuing changes in regulatory guidance—and how they might impact your health system. For instance, while some 1135 blanket waivers are being rescinded or being overridden by state or local requirements, others remain in place or are still being added.
And make sure you differentiate between CDC guidance for the general public and guidance for healthcare organizations.
In mid-May, after the CDC released guidance to the general public that fully vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks indoors, many hospitals were concerned, thinking they couldn’t require anyone within their walls to wear masks anymore. That prompted the American Hospital Association (AHA) to seek a clarification from the CDC, then issue a warning.
“CDC said health care facilities should continue to refer to CDC’s infection prevention and control guidance for recommendations regarding source control and physical distancing in health care settings,” according to the announcement by the AHA. The CDC said it would alert the AHA and others if and when there were changes to guidance for healthcare settings.
