Study: Nurse-physician collaboration can help reduce HAIs
April 14, 2015
A study published in CriticalCareNurse found that increased nurse-physician collaboration led to a reduction in healthcare-associated infections (HAI) in critically ill patients. Researchers analyzed five years’ of nurse perception data from 671 surveys conducted in four intensive care units.
The study examined relationships between nurse-physician collaboration and ventilator-associated pneumonia and central catheter-associated bloodstream infections. For every 0.5 unit increase in collaboration, the rate of bloodstream infections decreased by 2.98 and pneumonia by 1.13.
