HIPAA and meaningful use
Welcome to "HIPAA demystified," the first in an ongoing series. Everyone now lives in a world of HIPAA, yet many-indeed, most of us-are not professional practitioners, but simply people who brush against HIPAA daily. Yet compliance is still required, with specific obligations under the regulations. Ignorance of the regulations does not exempt you from the reach of HIPAA and compliance auditors. In this column, I will provide you with actionable information about the evolving HIPAA regulations, your obligations under HIPAA, and updates to aid you in your compliance efforts. I will not review specific regulations, but rather provide you with information you need to know to survive and flourish in the world of HIPAA. Much of what I will write about comes from my organization's practice of working with entities such as yours to help them develop and maintain their HIPAA compliance.
