Proposed National Patient Safety Goal examines impact of CT scan radiation on children
The Joint Commission has proposed a National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) that highlights pediatric Computed Tomography (CT) imaging. Children are generally more susceptible to the effects of radiation than adults, and The Joint Commission hopes to establish evidence-based practices on how often a child should be given a CT scan to check for physical trauma. The proposed requirements for the NPSG are on the Joint Commission's website.
