Q&A: Communicating performance improvement
Q: How do I make sure that our performance improvement efforts are being communicated and integrated effectively throughout our organization?
A: Most clinical leaders and many support department leaders will be represented on quality committees as outlined in your plan. These leaders have a responsibility to manage the plan and communicate it. In addition, in order to implement your plan and undertake improvements, you will probably set up PI teams that will include representatives from areas involved in the process under study.
Everyone who has a role in PI must also work to communicate the process and the results to relevant others in the organization. This may include such steps as:
- Policy and procedure updates with rationale
- Posters and celebrations at management and clinical meetings
- Management and medical leadership updates, dashboards, and newsletters
- Publications for the workforce
The objective is that everyone who works in your organization can name at least one or two quality improvement activities that have affected his or her work.
