Three-step approach can lead to decreased central line infections
September 11, 2012
According to a new Johns Hopkins Children’s Center study, hospitals can drastically decrease the number of life-threatening central line infections in children with cancer by following three basic steps: adhering to basic precautions, encouraging families to speak up when they see noncompliance, and conducting an accurate root cause analysis of every infection.
According to a report in the October issue of Pediatrics, researchers say this approach has prevented 25% of infections over two years.
