Study looks at how staph infections spread in hospitals

A new study published in PLOS Computational Biology used wireless sensors recording human interactions to explain how bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) spreads in hospitals. Close interactions between patients and healthcare workers at a French hospital acted as pathways for the transmission of staph strains, according to the study.

Led by Thomas Obadia, the researchers found that studying individual contact may help identify increased risk of transmission situations.
