Joint Commission: Complete overdue PFIs by July 1
June 3, 2014
In an effort to resolve Plans for Improvement (PFI) more efficiently, The Joint Commission announced May 28 that it now requires accredited organizations to complete or request an extension for any PFIs in their Statement of Conditions that exceed six months.
The Joint Commission recently reviewed existing PFIs and found that many organizations had failed to make sufficient progress in completing them. This policy affects only PFIs that were accepted during survey. Failure to address overdue PFIs by July 1 will result in a follow-up call from The Joint Commission’s Department of Engineering. If the PFI is further delayed, an on-site survey may result.
