Report: Hospital alarms are top healthcare tech hazard
December 16, 2014
A new report from ECRI Institute says hospital alarm errors are at the top of its list of top 10 health technology hazards for the fourth straight year, according to HealthLeaders Media. ECRI’s 2015 report lists high-risk devices and systems that can lead to patient harm.
Other hazards on the list include missing data in electronic health records, mix-ups of IV lines, inadequate reprocessing of endoscopes and surgical instruments, ventilator disconnections, patient handling device use errors, variations in diagnostic radiation exposures, robotic surgery complications, insufficient protections for networked medical devices and systems, and overwhelmed recall and safety alert management programs.
