From the AHAP Blog: AHA releases report looking at readmissions
September 20, 2011
The American Hospital Association’s (AHA) TrendWatch has released a recent report looking at hospital readmissions and what quality of care issues might be interconnected to readmission rates.
The report states that nearly one-fifth of Medicare beneficiaries discharged from a hospital return within 30 days, according to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. Not all of these readmissions are unplanned, and some are not related to the initial visit to the hospital–thus noting that improving quality will not do away with all readmissions. The report explores areas of focus for research as new programs are put into place to reduce readmissions and improve care.
