Special precautions are used when patients are at risk of self-harm, especially in settings that do not otherwise have safe spaces available. This training program will provide information for supervisors and staff observers about restraint and seclusion, ensuring they can meet both the needs of patients and the myriad of rules and regulations, all while keeping staff safe.
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Describe basic best-practice interventions to prevent use of seclusion or restraint
- Identify core risk factors for conflicts and aggression in healthcare settings
- Describe core competencies for one-to-one observers and who should serve in these roles
- Identify basic de-escalation competencies
Agenda
- Overview of best practice restraint and seclusion prevention strategies
- Factors leading to conflicts and aggression in healthcare settings
- What should basic training include for one-to-one observers and who should (or shouldn’t) be in that role
- De-escalation guidelines
