From the AHAP Blog: Joint Commission releases latest list of most challenging requirements

The Joint Commission announced this week its most challenging requirements list for the first half of 2010. The list for hospitals is dominated, as it has in the past, with standards dealing with fire safety requirements, though the most challenging requirement deals with medical records–another commonly cited standard from previous years’ lists.

Here are the top five most challenging requirements for the first half of 2010:

• 62%: RC.01.01.01. This requires the hospital to maintain complete and accurate medical records for each patient.

• 50%: LS.02.01.20. Integrity of means of egress at the hospital.

• 44%: LS.02.01.10. The hospital must have fire protection features that minimize the effects of fire, smoke, and heat.

• 38%: EC.02.03.05. Another fire safety standard: this Element of performance requires the hospital to maintain fire safety equipment and building features.

• 37%: LS.02.01.30. Yet another fire safety requirement–the hospital must maintain features to protect individuals from smoke and fire hazards.
