Dallas hospital uses pharmacists in ED to reduce errors

To cut down on medication errors in its emergency department (ED), Children’s Medical Center in Dallas has 10 full-time emergency pharmacists who review each medication to make sure it’s the correct drug in the correct dose, according to NPR.

The hospital made the move because medication errors are three times more likely to occur with children than adults, NPR reports. Each week, pharmacists at Children’s Medical Center review nearly 20,000 prescriptions and medication orders to check the child’s weight, allergies, medications, and health insurance.
