Joint Commission releases top five most-cited standards for first half of 2015
The Joint Commission’s latest list of most-cited standards features the usual suspects: safety, infection control, and medical records. These are the five requirements that surveyors found hospitals to be the most non-compliant with during surveys conducted between January 1 and June 30.
For hospitals, the most-cited standard was EC.02.06.01 (maintenance of a safe environment) with 59%. Second on the list was IC.02.02.01 (reduction of infection risk from equipment, devices, and supplies, 54%), followed by EC.02.05.01 (management of utility system risks, 53%), LS.02.01.20 (maintenance of egress integrity, 50%), and RC.01.01.01 (maintenance of accurate, complete medical records for all patients, 48%). The list is almost identical to the top five of 2014, with numbers two and three switching places.
