From the AHAP Blog: A different kind of accreditation news

This news from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Education might be of interest, particularly to teaching hospitals:
The ACGME announced last week that it will, beginning in 2014, require medical residents and fellows to demonstrate competency is six core areas: patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, systems-based practice, professionalism, and interpersonal skills and communication. The organization wants to implement an outcomes-based evaluation system that measures doctors on their competency for “in performing the essential tasks necessary for clinical practice in the 21st century,” the organization says in its official statement.
